Essential Oil Basics
With clinics on every corner and around 6,000 registered hospitals in the US, we are armed and ready to be sick. But what if we as a society made a shift, and were better at HEALTH care than we are at sick care?
So often we react to issues versus coming at them prepared and ready. Being proactive with our health can be highly beneficial if we’re willing to do the work.
Are you ready to put your health first so you can have more days with your loved ones, your babies, your grand-babies? This class will show you just how simple that is.
Ditch & Switch
I know that making healthy lifestyle choices isn’t always easy. Do you struggle to order the salad over the burger? Been there! Maybe you struggle with choosing to exercise regularly or maybe it’s hard for you to get solid sleep. Maybe your house is filled with questionable products and you don’t know where to start. Been there too!

Making these changes does not have to be overwhelming. You can take small steps that add up to big ones. Young Living is here to help you create a wellness LIFESTYLE, starting with the products in your home. Ditching the chemical-filled, hormone disrupting cleaner for a SAFE, plant-based cleaner infused with the best essential oils is a GREAT start. Then maybe you decide to ditch that toxic shampoo and switch it out for one that’s made from ingredients that are truly safe for you. Then maybe you move on to replace your laundry soap and so on. Small changes lead to big results.

With ingredients that actually support a healthy body, Young Living oils and products are absolutely worth the investment. From skin care and makeup to a kid and baby line, pet products, supplements, food, and so much more, YL makes it easy to support everyone's health!
What are essential oils & how does Young Living compare?

Young Living is the ONLY company known for its Seed to Seal promise. Seed to Seal is a quality commitment unlike anything else; they have control of the ENTIRE process, from the seed to the sealed bottle. You can rest assured that you’re getting a quality product made with the highest quality essentials oils and other naturally-derived ingredients.

Check out some of the strict guidelines they abide by to fulfill their promise in sending only the best products to your home.
  • plant material that is grown on corporately-owned farms or carefully vetted partner farms (that you CAN visit!)
  • sustainable farming and sourcing practices, providing the purest oil
  • great care taken to preserve and protect natural resources
  • hand-weeded fields and ZERO use of pesticides
  • oils that retain all their natural constituents and therapeutic properties
  • use of food-grade distillers with state-of-the-art design and distillation methods
  • low pressure and low temperature distillation, without the use of solvents or synthetic chemicals
  • rigorous testing on each batch by internal labs and third-party facilities
  • oils that are carefully reviewed through every step of production in order to meet or exceed industry safety and purity standards (beyond organic!)
And the best part… if the oils do not meet these high standards they are rejected and will not be bottled as a Young Living product. Check out more info on their Seed to Seal promise HERE.
How do you use essential oils?
Before we dive into the most popular oils I want to explain how to use them. Well, it’s rather simple! Just pick a way and go for it! Anyone can use essential oils - no aromatherapy training needed.

Topically
You can apply them to your wrists, neck, back, feet, etc. Just keep them out of your ears and eyes, directly. If you get oil in your eyes, don’t rinse it with water. Instead, apply a fatty carrier oil around the area.
Another thing to keep in mind is that some oils are gentle enough to put directly on your skin without diluting. If you notice it getting hot or making your skin a little red, just throw some carrier oil on (coconut oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, etc.). For kids and elderly people, dilute it more heavily. Don’t overcomplicate it; keep it simple!

Aromatically
Another way to use them is aromatically. Crack open a bottle, and breathe it in. It can be that simple! Add your oils to a diffuser and enjoy the therapeutic benefits from diffusing. Put a drop in your palm, rub your hands together, and cup your hands over your nose. Breathe deeply and enjoy! No matter how you do it you still reap the benefits.

Internally
Add a drop (or more) of a Vitality oil into an empty vegetable capsule, a cup of tea, or a glass of water. You can even cook and bake with them! Try some Lemon Vitality in your yogurt or a toothpick tip of Oregano Vitality in your next batch of spaghetti sauce… so delicious! One of my favorite things to do is add 4 drops of Peppermint Vitality to a box mix of brownies - talk about yummy! One thing to note: citrus oils can break down the petrochemicals in plastic so it’s safer to use stainless steel, glass, or ceramic when adding oils to your dishes and drinks.
Now, before we go any further… I want to make sure you know the difference between a Vitality oil (white label) and the “regular” oils (solid-color label). The Vitality oils are labeled for internal/dietary use so they can be ingested. The solid-color bottles are labeled for aromatic/topical use. However, they are the SAME oil. The ONLY difference is the color of the label. It just makes it easier for us to know which oils can be safely ingested. Does that make sense?
First up… Lavender, which is probably one of the most well-known essential oils. They call this one the “swiss army knife” of oils because it is extremely versatile and can be used for so many things! Being that I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose, treat, or prescribe anything to you, an essential oil reference book comes in handy when getting to know your oils. Be sure to connect with me after you get your oils so I can show you some!
This oil is like the MAC DADDY of oils! Remember in the Bible how the wise men brought Jesus some Frankincense? Yep… this is it - REAL Frankincense - and it is oh so wonderful.
This oil… ahhhhhhhh. That’s what I say every time I use it. It just makes that _____ go away, like the name implies. It has the smell of good ol’ fashioned root beer and feels like heaven when applied. #YouNeedThisOil
“If I just breathe… everything is alright if I just breathe.” Remember that song? Ya, this oil will make you do just that - breathe and breathe well. Raven is a cool, refreshing combination of Ravintsara, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Lemon, and Wintergreen essential oils.
Easy Uses:
  • Diffuse in any stuffy environment for a fresh, crisp atmosphere.
  • Add a few drops to a wet washcloth and set outside the stream of water during a hot shower for an invigorating experience.
  • Add a few drops to Young Living’s carrier oil, V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex, and create a relaxing massage oil.
  • Add a few drops to some coconut oil and stir for a quick chest rub.
This oil holds a very special place in my heart.  The word Valor means courage.  It also happens to be a more accurate description of the woman in Proverbs 31 "Who can find woman of Valor?"  That's right, she was a very courageous woman, not some pious quiet submissive lady.  She was a risk taker, and a visionary.  When I use this oil, I feel like I stand up a little taller, and I'm ready to face the day with a little more - courage.  Its also a great blend for guys and makes a handsome cologne.

The name says it all with this blend. You can wear this one on diffuser jewelry, on your neck or wrists, or pop some in the diffuser. You can even get a little creative with it and add a drop or two some homemade play dough for the kids!

Stress Away is another popular oil because it does just what its name suggests. It’s one you will never want to run out of. You might want to add it to a Loyalty Order just to be safe!
So far we have talked about some popular topical and aromatic oils. Now we are going to talk about a few oils that are labeled for ingestion… also known as Vitality oils.
First up - Lemon Vitality. This oil can add such a bright and dynamic flavor to your dishes with just ONE drop! Use it to add flavor to savory foods like fish and chicken or sweet foods like pastries and cakes; it’s so versatile! You can sub it for lemon zest or juice and still pack a punch. Try it!
We also love to add it to our drinks - water, teas, smoothies, juices, homemade popsicles, etc. It’s so tasty! Be sure to use a glass, ceramic, or stainless steel container; citrus oils can eat away at the petrochemicals in plastic and you don’t want to accidentally ingest plastic. Yuck!
You could also grab some empty veggie capsules from Young Living and add a few drops to take as a dietary supplement. Like I said, so versatile!

One more thing, this one comes in a solid-label bottle too. That means it can be diffused or applied topically as well. Remember - same oil, different label.

How awesome is that?! Peppermint is SO much more than a flavor - when you get the real deal. Just like other Vitality oils you can add this one to food like brownies, cakes, cookies, candies, fruit dishes, etc. You can also add it to drinks like water, tea, or protein shakes. You can also take a few drops in a veggie capsule as a dietary supplement - whatever works for you!

This oil is a powerhouse for the digestive system. DiGize Vitality is a blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise, and Patchouli essential oils. Put your googling fingers to work and do a little research to find out how amazing those oils are for your body! You’ll be amazed. You can take this oil internally with a veggie capsule (personal favorite), in food or drink, or directly under your tongue.

This oil is such a refreshing gem! It’s a mix of Orange, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Tangerine, Lemon, and Spearmint essential oils and can be added to food, drinks, or taken internally with a veggie capsule. Add a punch of flavor and pizazz to chicken, salmon, and gourmet salads. You can use it to keep yourself motivated and hydrated by adding a drop or two to your water. This one also tastes amazing when added to NingXia Red (a red antioxidant drink), which we talk about soon! Don’t forget to use glass, ceramic, or stainless steel containers as citrus oils can eat away at the petrochemicals in plastic.

Now for one final oil. I saved the best for last - Thieves! There’s even an entire line of products that contain this powerful combination of oils; it’s THAT good. Thieves Vitality is a sweet and spicy combination of Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, Rosemary, and Lemon essential oils.
Did you know? The name ‘Thieves’ was inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated and wore a special aromatic combination of clove, rosemary, vinegar, and other botanicals that they believed provided protection while they were stealing. The story goes on to say that when the thieves were caught they were offered a lesser punishment if they would divulge to the king the secret to their immunity, despite being exposed to a highly infectious, deadly disease. Pretty interesting, huh??

Again, because it’s a Vitality oil, it can be added to food or drinks, taken in a veggie capsule, or placed directly under the tongue. Some people enjoy it added to oatmeal, parfaits, coffees, desserts, honey, or NingXia Red. Try a few things and get creative; the possibilities are endless!

So far we’ve talked only about essential oils, but those are just PART of your wellness toolbox. You need supplements and household products as well so we are going to talk about a few before we wrap up. First up - one of the most popular YL supplements - NingXia Red.
Ningxia Red is a whole-body supplement. It’s a blend of the Ningxia Wolfberry (also known as goji berries, a superfruit) along with plum, aronia, cherry, blueberry, and pomegranate juices and extracts plus pure vanilla extract and Lemon, Orange, Yuzu, and Tangerine essential oils. You need NingXia in your life!
You can add it to smoothies, juices, drink it straight, or even make fun things like popsicles and gummies with it. It’s recommended that you consume 1-2 ounces a day and it’s best served chilled. I love adding my own Vitality oils as well for a custom flavor! Bottoms up!

We are almost done, friend! Last up is the Thieves Spray and Thieves Hand Sanitizer, both of which are amazing! Let’s find out why.
